WhatsApp in Odoo Community: how to get it without paying for Enterprise
Also in: Español · Deutsch · Português · Français · Italiano
The native WhatsApp module only exists in Enterprise. These are the three real ways out for Community, what each one costs, and how they differ.
If you installed Odoo Community and went looking for the WhatsApp module, you already know how this ends: it isn't there. It isn't hidden, and there's nothing to switch on. The native WhatsApp module is exclusive to Odoo Enterprise, and in Community it simply does not exist.
The official documentation says so plainly, but people tend to find out late: after installing, after configuring, and sometimes after promising someone that WhatsApp would be integrated.
This guide covers the three ways out that actually exist, and what each one costs.
Why it isn't there
Odoo shipped WhatsApp as a native module from version 17 onwards, and kept it on the Enterprise side along with Studio, Documents and Sign. That is a commercial decision, not a technical one: there is nothing in Community that prevents talking to Meta's API.
That matters, because it means the problem is solved with a module, not by changing ERP.
Way out 1 · Pay for Enterprise
The obvious one. You subscribe to Odoo Enterprise and get the native module.
The maths, at Odoo's current prices:
| Users | Standard | Custom |
|---|---|---|
| 3 | USD 33.60/mo | USD 51.00/mo |
| 5 | USD 56.00/mo | USD 85.00/mo |
| 10 | USD 112.00/mo | USD 170.00/mo |
If you were going to buy Enterprise anyway for other reasons, this is the natural route. If you chose Community precisely to avoid a licence, paying between 56 and 85 dollars a month just to have WhatsApp is expensive for what it solves.
And there is a second piece of fine print: the native module requires a Cloud API account, not the WhatsApp Business app. We'll come back to that.
Way out 2 · Automate with n8n or similar
An external orchestrator between Odoo and Meta's API. It is flexible and works on both editions.
In exchange, it isn't an integration: it's a project. You have to run the server, design the flows, maintain them when Meta changes something, and hand-build things a module gives you for free — the conversation thread on the contact, templates, attachments, who handles what. It makes sense if you already run n8n for other things and have someone to maintain it.
Way out 3 · A third-party module
You install a module from the Odoo Apps Store and you're done. It's the route most people take, and the price is a one-time purchase rather than a monthly licence.
What to check before choosing:
- That it is genuinely for Community. Several modules in the store extend the native module, so they require Enterprise too. If the listing says "requires Odoo Enterprise Edition", it won't help you.
- Which Odoo version it supports. A module for 17 will not install on 19.
- What happens to your number. This is the trap almost nobody explains.
The trap with your number
Odoo's documentation also says this, and it is what derails the most projects:
Personal WhatsApp accounts and WhatsApp Business app accounts are not compatible with Odoo's WhatsApp integration.
Translated: to use the integration, your number has to migrate to the Cloud API. And once a number migrates, it stops working in the WhatsApp Business app on the phone.
Think about what that means in practice. Your sales team has spent years replying from their phones. On migration day they lose the app. Everything moves to the computer, inside Odoo. It is an enormous change of habit, and it is why so many WhatsApp integrations get installed, tested and abandoned.
There is a third path, and it is official from Meta: it's called Coexistence. The same number works in the phone app and through the API at the same time. The team keeps replying from their phones, and those conversations still show up in Odoo.
So which one?
| If… | Choose |
|---|---|
| You're already paying for Enterprise for other apps | The native module |
| You have someone to maintain automations | n8n |
| You're on Community and want it working now | A third-party module built for Community |
| Your team cannot lose the phone app | A module with Coexistence |
Those last two conditions usually come together, and that is exactly what our module is for.
What we do
WhatsApp Coexistence API is a module for Odoo Community 17, 18, 19 and 20. One-time purchase on Odoo Apps, no Enterprise licence, and it brings the whole integration: its own inbox, templates synced with Meta, sending from any record, and several numbers in one database.
It connects through Coexistence — you scan a QR and the number stays alive on the phone — or through the Cloud API with your own Meta app, if you prefer that.
If you already pay for Enterprise and only need the Coexistence part, the Coexistence for WhatsApp add-on does that one thing on top of the native module.
Connect your number without taking it off the phone
Your team keeps replying from the same app, and every conversation lands in Odoo.
